A New Approach for Helping "Explosive" Children **
If you missed the January issue of Attention Research Update, it is now available on the web. This issue describes a very interesting approach that parents and professionals may wish to consider for helping children who are prone to "explosive outbursts and meltdowns". While not a core feature of ADHD, intense emotional and behavioral outbursts are problems that are more common among children with ADHD and can create substantial difficulty for families.
The approach was developed by Dr. Ross Greene and described in his book titled "The Explosive Child: A New Approach for Understanding and Parenting Easily Frustrated, "Chronically Inflexible" Children. I found this book to be extremely helpful with challenges presented by my younger daughter and have recommended it many parents over the past 6 years.
